If you missed Monday's deadline to reserve cases of grapefruit and oranges from the Wilton Kiwanis Club, orders are still being taken on a first-come first-served basis. Extra fruit has been ordered from the Florida grove, and will arrive Friday, March 5.
Cases still available when the truck arrives will be sold to walk-in customers at Goetjens Warehouse across from Wilton High School. Past years have sold out early, so place your secure orders now online at wiltonkiwanis.org with a credit card, or print an order form for mailing or fax. The fruit is boxed in seven different packages: Valencia Oranges, and Pink Grapefruit, each at $23 for 2/5 bushel and $38 for 4/5 bushel; Honey Tangerines at $23 for 2/5 bushel; or combination boxes of either Oranges or Tangerines and Grapefruit at $25 for 2/5 bushel. Orders of six cases or more may be delivered.
One hundred percent of proceeds from the sale will be donated to a long list of worthy organizations. Among those local causes supported with Kiwanis funds in 2009 were the Wilton Library, Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Nursing & Home Care, Trackside Teen Center, Homes for Hope, Wilton High School Key Club, Ambler Farm, AmeriCares, Mid-Fairfield Child Guidance Center, Wilton CERT, Wilton Family Y, Wilton Playshop, S.T.A.R. and Meals on Wheels, not to mention that about 5% to 10% of the fruit ordered goes to local food banks.
Wilton Kiwanis has a long tradition of serving the community since its founding in 1951. Its 120 members meet weekly for lunch and camaraderie, hear guest speakers on current and interesting topics, and plan upcoming service projects.
