Spain: Spanish lemon will remain in international markets for the coming months
Given the euphoria in Argentina and South Africa, AILIMPO reminds that Spain has enough lemon to supply the market until the summer.
The latest report of the Technical Department of AILIMPO ended last week. They took into account the situation of a representative sample of farms which confirms the initial forecast for this year's 2009/2010 harvest. While confirming that there is enough stock of lemon to function at a normal pace in the coming months and ensures export pace with Spanish lemon volumes similar to those from previous seasons. "Normalcy" is therefore the word that best defines the development of the export season of fresh lemon. In return the processing industry has sharply reduced its activity following the fall of that year's production.
In the case of Verna lemons, production, yet still smaller than in previous years, is higher than originally planned, thanks to favorable weather conditions.
In this regard, AILIMPO stresses that, "Vernas and Primofiori lemons from Spain, came to international markets with a total supply, even beyond the dates originally planned, they can continue with a good supply of Spanish lemon until the summer."
