Almost at the end of the season and the much smaller supply of Spanish oranges, salustianas and navels it was a very difficult season, with a decreasing demand and disappointing prices compared to the quantity.
The cold winter weather in all of Europe did not increase the demand for vitamin bombs. Also citrus fruit from Morocco is offered at all kinds of prices, according to the trade these are clearance prices, which also has to do with quality. Leo Pels of Pels Import has, during his long career, has never experienced such difficult sales and that it took so much hard labour to place the fruit in the market.
Also with the sale of grapes large volumes are not being placed and are sold at prices established by the daily trade. There is hardly any demand for expensive airfreighted grapes and there are dealers who drop out because of the diminishing demand.
